PAGE 4: UPGRADING THE TWIN CAM, ON TO A
BRIGHT FUTURE
|
Upgrading
the new Twin Cam
This
happened in 1999, when Harley-Davidson were introducing the Twin Cam.
From Panhead to Twin Cam may seem like quite a stretch, but Harley is
conservative in their engineering and my experience with the older
engines immediately gave me ideas about improving the new one.
The
Twin Cam was designed for incremental power upgrades over its projected
lifetime, and I was finding ways for first-generation Twin Cam owners to
get the power that will be available in stock Twin Cams five or ten
years in the future, without stressing the engine.
|
Thing of beauty: A Twin Cam 88 head when
Perry's finished with it. This one has been ported and dual plugged, and
fitted with Perry's hand-made valves and springs.
|
When tuning for
power, it's important to keep maximum torque and horsepower in the
middle range, shown here on the tach as an orange band. This keeps the
bike's "fun to ride" factor intact. |
With
selected component manufacturers, I went to work developing more power
from the Twin Cam in ways that would retain its "fun to ride"
factor.
See my Fun
to Ride Guide for more information about how raw horsepower numbers
don't tell the whole story. |
A
year later, our Twin Cam 88/95 R&D program is nearly completed. In
the very near future – watch this site for details – FLO Headworks
will offer a complete Twin Cam High Performance Kit, complete with my
unique cylinder heads, cams designed by my original mentor, and optional
carburetor tuning, as well as other goodies.
Screamin'
Eagle compatibility
Like
all our performance modifications, the Twin Cam High Performance Kit
will be compatible with Screamin’ Eagle aftermarket components. Dyno
charts are coming soon, and they’ll show that whatever the state of
your Hog’s current configuration, my performance tuning will help it
run faster and stronger, without giving up that essential “fun to
ride” factor.

A bright future for my Harley-riding
friends
Now
that Harley-Davidson are the most popular big bikes in America (as they
should be), I’ve got a whole new generation of customers wanting the
same thing Harley owners have always sought: for their bike to be unique
in sound and power, to “stand out” from the crowd with an
ultra-strong, ultra-smooth engine that still has that Harley character.
Thanks
to the Internet, prospective customers can read my articles and review
the services I offer for their engine types, and then correspond with me
by e-mail or phone about their specialized needs.
In
the near future I will make available a detailed analysis form, so
prospective customers can enter their bike’s specs, their riding style
and configuration, and their performance goals in detail. After
submission to me, I’ll respond with a detailed list of
recommendations, with prices, for achieving the performance they’re after,
at the lowest cost and with maximum reliability.

Thank
you for taking the time to read my bio. Please stay tuned to this site,
and by all means drop me an
e-mail!
I’m looking forward to keeping my friends across America and around
the world up to date on my work and life.
Best
of luck, Perry Kime, CEO, FLO Headworks
